CCTV

The future of CCTV in Cornwall is now in doubt. Cornwall Council, having to make drastic cuts to their budget, can no longer afford to pay for the service as it stands. In typical fashion, the media are sensationalising what is happening.
A basic question about CCTV is, do we need to have this service?   Yes, as it is a important tool for proof within the Criminal Justice System. However, it is a tool of the Police, so why are the Taxpayers having to pay for it, and why is Cornwall Council having any input. The cost of CCTV should be put through the Police budget, and NOT be payed for by the Tax payers of Cornwall, or anywhere else.
This also begs another question about who pays for what within Society. The very small proportion of Criminals within modern British Society should pay for what Society has to pay to control their antics. The money needed to prop up CCTV should be raised by increases in Fines payed through the Courts. Why should the vast majority of honest, decent law abiding Citizens, all trying to make a living, have to pay for their stupidity. We all know that Criminals in our Society today are laughing at the Justice system. Crime will not be controlled untill the punishment is so severe that all Criminals will think twice before commiting these acts.
